Are you considering adoption while faced with an unexpected pregnancy? Are you wondering what adoption options you have or how adoption works? We’re here to offer more adoption information so you can make a confident decision for your future.
Types of Adoption
Adoption today is very different from a few decades ago. Now, the expectant mother or birth mother makes all the decisions. You have adoption options.
You choose the family who will raise your child and the future you hope your child will have. Here are the various adoption plans to choose from, which allow you to decide what kind of relationship you want with your child and their adoptive family.
Open Adoption Plan
With an open adoption, there is open communication with the adoptive family, and names, addresses, and phone numbers are exchanged. Each party works together to plan visits with one another and your child. It’s up to both parties to build the type of relationship they would like.
Closed Adoption Plan
A closed adoption may be a fit for you if you’re seeking privacy and closure. With this adoption type, the adoptive family and birth mom remain anonymous. The child’s birth certificate and identifying information are sealed after everything is finalized with the adoption. This is an excellent option if you are worried about your and your child’s safety.
Semi-Open Adoption Plan
Lastly, there is semi-open adoption. With a semi-open adoption plan, all communication between you, your child, and the adoptive family is made through your chosen adoption agency or specialist.
